A few years ago, I designed a floral nursery for Jessi Malay‘s daughter, Alessandra, after they moved into a new Los Angeles home. Well, Alessandra has a new baby sister who also needed a nursery, so I worked with Jessi over the past few months to design the perfect space. Jessi wanted to go in a different direction for Isabella’s nursery—much more neutral with some natural touches and lots of texture.

There were high ceilings in this room, so we wanted to highlight the walls. We chose a removable wall mural from Urban Walls that has a gorgeous printed texture to give the room depth. It’s so soft and subtle in person, but it adds so much to the room. Plus, it’s removable, so if they ever want to change up the room, it will come down easily.

Jessi really wanted a rocking chair with a boucle fabric, so we chose the Compass Rocker from Nursery Works. The fabric is super soft and cozy, and it adds even more texture to the room. We added a neutral side table and a woven ottoman to layer in those neutrals.

On the other side of the room, we had a small space between two doors to add a changing table. The Newport Cottages Monterey Dresser was the perfect fit. Since Newport Cottages has custom finishes available, we went with soft whites for both the frame and the caning, and of course, gold hardware! We added the changing tray as well for a little extra organization. The gold arched mirror above the changing table really helps to open up the room and bounce the light around.

One of the unique challenges with this room was finding storage for clothing. The closet in the room was already being used, so we needed another option. We found this amazing custom clothing rack on Etsy that looks amazing in the room and provides tons of storage for Isabella’s clothes!

We didn’t want to add a large piece of artwork over the crib, but rather something that highlighted the wallpaper and made a subtle sophisticated statement. We went with this maple wood wall name in a sweet cursive font. It compliments the natural wood crib so well. You can also see the detail in the Loloi rug in this shot—it’s absolutely gorgeous! It has neutrals, whites and metallic gold and it shimmers in the light.

We had a little spot by the bathroom door to put some additional storage, so we added wall ledges for a few of Isabella’s favorite books. We added a small ottoman underneath for a guest to sit, and it really makes that little corner come together. You can really see how the wall mural highlights the high ceilings!

This room really feels amazing in person—there is so much natural light and the soft colors and neutrals feel relaxing and serene.

A few months ago, the lovely Jessi Malay reached out to me for help designing the nursery for her daughter, Alessandra. They had just purchased a brand new home in Los Angeles and had a completely blank canvas to work with. The first time I saw the space, I was so excited to see the high ceilings and bright natural light (probably two of the most important things to a designer!).

We sat down and talked a lot about what she wanted to see in the space. She wasn’t entirely sure, but knew she wanted lots of white, a crib with acrylic, and some type of statement wallpaper. I showed her an image of a girl’s bedroom I designed last year with some pretty spectacular floral wallpaper and that was that! She fell in love with the wallpaper, and we were able to pull the whole design together after that.

Jessi loved the idea of an acrylic crib. We chose the Babyletto Harlow crib because it’s modern, it’s acrylic and it’s white, so pretty much the perfect option for her. Jessi’s nursery isn’t huge, so we couldn’t fit a wide dresser in here along with a glider. Instead, we chose a medium-sized dresser from Newport Cottages and customized it with a white satin finish and gold hardware.

Almost everything else in the room I chose from Joss & Main. They have such a huge selection and happened to have a ton of items in the color scheme we were going for. I even found great little succulent plants and accessories there!

Jessi really wanted to have a little snuggle spot in the nursery too, so we created a little spot with lots of fun pillows and a soft faux sheepskin rug to play on.

Baby Alessandra had such a fun time playing around her new nursery! It was so fun to watch her explore and discover all the new things in her room.

You may have noticed that I’ve been posting a lot of little hints about the nursery I’ve been working on for Jessi Malay. Jessi reached out to me and asked if I would help her design her daughter’s nursery in the new home they had just moved into. When I got to her home, I was thrilled to see that the nursery was full of natural light and had a gorgeous vaulted ceiling—it spoke to me and asked for a big ‘ol chandelier, which I happily agreed to (yes, ceilings speak to me on occasion).

We sat down and talked a lot about what she wanted to see in the space. She wasn’t entirely sure, but knew she wanted lots of white, a crib with acrylic, and some type of statement wallpaper. I showed her an image (below) of a girl’s bedroom I designed last year with some pretty spectacular floral wallpaper and that was that! She feel in love with the wallpaper, and we were able to pull the whole design together after that.

The first step (and the least fun) is the floor plan. It’s super important for me to lay everything out so I can make sure things will fit and that everything is in a safe location. We sat together while I drew up the floor plan on my laptop and I showed her what I suggested for the space.

Onto the fun part—design! Jessi loved the idea of an acrylic crib, and right away I thought of the Babyletto Harlow crib. It’s modern, it’s acrylic and it’s white, so pretty much the perfect option for her. Jessi’s nursery isn’t huge, so we couldn’t fit a wide dresser in here along with a glider, so we chose a medium sized dresser from Newport Cottages and customized the heck out of it (luckily that’s what they do). All white, satin finish with specialty gold hardware.

Every item I chose for her, I put together in the nursery design board above so she could get a feeling for what the design would look like. We edited a little and refined the design, and then moved on to ordering. A few weeks later, I came back to install the room! There was a ridiculous amount of boxes in her entryway and it took us over an hour just to open them all up. By the way, opening boxes is one of the most exciting parts of my job—it’s like Christmukkah morning!

Getting everything installed is always a challenge, but we did it. We debated on the perfect height to hang the chandelier and I watched nervously every time someone got up on a ladder.

After the installation was done, I got to swoop in and do all the styling. We had a full etagere bookcase in this room and I styled the whole thing out with cute little decor pieces, succulent plants, artwork, etc.
