In my 18+ years of being a nursery designer, it’s always so interesting to see which design trends stick and which ones don’t. Two of the nursery trends that have turned into outright classics are floral wallpaper and blush pink. The florals have changed a bit over time—nowadays most people are leaning into the smaller scale patterns over the large scale florals, but the idea is the same. Florals are a mainstay in nursery design!

This Virtual Design client wanted a floral nursery with an accent wallpaper wall and lots of blush pink accents. We initially started with a more Chinoiserie pattern wallpaper with some green tones woven in, but eventually settled on a softer blush pink peony wallpaper. Since it’s only an accent wall, the pattern doesn’t overwhelm the space.

Instead of going with all white furniture, we wanted to mix in some gold. Blush pink, gold and white are such a classic pairing for girl’s nurseries, and it’s clear why. We chose a gold metal crib and paired it with a small white changing table with gold knobs to coordinate. The neutral tufted glider balances the space while also bringing in some soft texture, and the tufting detail adds to the traditional flair of the overall design.

We also had space for a bookcase in this room, but instead of going for a chunky piece of furniture, we chose a gold etagere instead. I love an etagere because they take up less “visual space”, and can be more easily attached to the wall for safety. And speaking of safety, whenever using a bookcase that has glass shelves like this one, it’s a good idea to replace the glass with acrylic. Just measure the glass and order acrylic cut-to-size either at a local frame shop or online. We usually do 1/4″ thick acrylic for an application like this since it will hold more weight.

Now for the blush pink! We already had the blush peonies wallpaper, so we added in some blush pink blackout curtains, a blush pink velvet pillow for the glider, and some gorgeous pink peony art prints for over the cirb (and again, these are framed with acrylic instead of glass and heavily secured). We also brought in a few scallop details for softness in the scalloped wall shelves, scalloped storage bin and scalloped floor lamp.

The last few details just brought in sophistication to the design, like the gold and white chandelier, the gold arch wall mirror and the neutral patterned rug. And of course, a storage ottoman! Keep an eye out for more updates on this pretty blush pink nursery!

Every client we work with is different, of course, but every now and then we’ll get a new project that has something unique that we’ve never done before. In this case, a client came to us with a room she wanted to use as her nursery, but it had a fireplace! Aside from that, the room had beautiful molding and was large enough for all the furniture we needed. Take a look at how this gorgeous Virtual Nursery Design came together.

Paneling is so popular in nursery design these days, so we decided to keep what they had, but paint it white, including the fireplace. This brightened up the whole nursery! Above the paneling, we added some pastel floral wallpaper with a beautiful soft mauve background. It’s a subtle pattern but whimsical enough to really give the space some personality.

For the nursery furniture, we knew that we wanted to bring in some of the colors from the marble on the fireplace. We chose a light wood crib with acrylic details and a textured neutral dresser to give the nursery some dimension. The glider is neutral as well, but we paired it with a pink scallop ottoman for a pop of color.

We brought in a neutral patterned rug and some blush blackout curtains to frame the large window. We also chose a stunning warm feather cloud chandelier to soften the space and bring in more of the warm tones from the fireplace marble. The client had a scarf from Hermes that she wanted to frame, so that became the focal art over the fireplace. And yes, we made sure that the fireplace valves were covered and safe!

It’s been a whirlwind of Virtual Designs this year! I love working with clients all over the country and it’s so fun to see how these projects turn out. This nursery design was for a client in New York. I’ve worked on a lot of New York nurseries and they present very unique challenges. But for this particular client, the room was large enough and didn’t have any strange architecture except for the shape of the window. So at least we didn’t have any floor plan issues!

The client wanted a soft and feminine nursery with blush pinks and neutrals. She wanted wallpaper, but she fell in love with a pretty bold pattern so we just did the accent wall instead of the whole room. The abstract pattern is large too, so it really makes a statement on the crib wall!

She also loved light wood furniture, and in keeping with the soft feel she wanted, we chose nursery furniture with rounded edges. We included a great nursery glider in a neutral fabric that also has a light wood base, and paired it with a storage ottoman (because every nursery can use extra storage!).

One of the bigger challenges in this room was the window area. There were two windows connected together, but at different heights. They also spanned most of the wall, so we had a lot of area to cover. We opted for ceiling mounted blackout curtains to cover the entire wall so there won’t be any question about getting that blackout seal. Under the drapery, there are semi-sheer roller shades for flexibility.

And of course, we added a mirror opposite the windows which helps bounce light around the whole space. The storage bench adds extra storage, but also acts as a second seat for an adult. The layered rugs give the space texture and dimension, and the sweet little balloons over the crib are lightweight fabric and just adorable.

Talk about a special nursery design! I’ve worked with this Orange County client for years, seen her through two children, two homes and have worked on 6 spaces for her. We designed nurseries for both her girls in the first home. Then, when she moved into a different home, we redesigned the nursery and upgraded her older girl’s room to a twin bed. We also did some work on the playroom and loft areas. The nursery below is the new nursery for her second daughter, and it came out so sweet!

She wanted to reuse as much as we could from the nursery in the original home, but also wanted to make it special. You can see the original nursery design here. We kept the light wood crib, textured dresser, neutral rug, boucle ottoman, fluted side table and a few decor pieces. The nursery glider got moved into the loft space since it was closer to the main bedroom. We replaced the glider with a small neutral chair so it’s still functional.

The light wood crib anchors the design and the curved lines make it modern but not too harsh. As you can see in the first nursery, there was a pretty white and blush floral wallpaper. She wanted to do wallpaper in this new nursery too, but since wallpaper can’t be moved, she wanted something new. We opted for this gorgeous blush and gold star wallpaper and it looks absolutely stunning!

The dresser in this room is an amazing piece! The curved detail and texture are so pretty and give it a more traditional feel. To balance it, we used a modern acrylic changing tray. The new home also had a small nursery space, so we used a large gold mirror to open up the room and bounce the light around.

Since the wallpaper in this nursery had a gold star detail, we pulled in more gold around the room. We chose a new gold floral chandelier that took advantage of the taller ceiling height, and used gold drapery hardware as well.

We kept the boucle storage ottoman because it functions as a second seat, and also has storage hidden inside. To add even more storage, we added some adorable woven scallop storage baskets.

There is a large window in this nursery, so we definitely needed to add window treatments. The home came with some existing roller shades, but the room needed more light protection. We chose some custom blackout curtains with a pretty blush trim on the outer edges to really give them a designer look.

Blush pink is one of the most frequently requested colors for a nursery design (when we’re not doing neutral). It’s so soft and pretty, and pairs with so many styles. Recently, a lot of clients have been opting for other colors instead of blush pink, like sage green or lavender. But we still have plenty of clients who love the soft and classic look of this sweet color. This Nursery Virtual Design client wanted a nursery for her daughter that was modern and flowed with her home.

As you can see below, this nursery floor plan was a little tricky. We always start by placing the crib in the safest spot, and then work around that. There really wasn’t much wall space even though the nursery is a good size, and we had a funny little angled wall to figure out. But we made it work so it will be a functional and safe nursery!

The rest of our client’s home was modern with textured wallpaper and silver accents, so we carried that into the nursery. We chose a blush wallpaper that’s subtle, but that has a soft texture. The neutral rug also has a textured look as well. We wanted the room to feel modern and clean, so we used a white acrylic crib and white changing table, along with the white nursery glider.

The window treatments in this nursery design needed to be blackout, as we usually recommend. This client wanted to have custom drapery made to match the other drapes in her home, so we helped her decide those specifics. Custom drapery is always great since it allows for so much design flexibility, but can be very pricey. Luckily there are a ton of great readymade options out there—check out our post on Blackout Curtains for the Nursery.

We balanced the silver accents with some more natural touches like the storage bin and artwork, and added blush decor throughout. We also added some greenery with the faux olive tree and the faux peonies. These little touches really make the room come together.

We have another nursery design reveal from one of our very favorite clients! We’ve worked with her and her family on multiple nurseries and other spaces over several years including 4 children! We finally got to photograph the most recent nursery design and can’t be more thrilled with how it came out.

The subtle pink floral wallpaper is the centerpiece of the nursery. It adds a touch of whimsy and femininity to the room while creating a soft and soothing environment for the baby. The wallpaper also adds texture and depth, making it feel more dynamic even though it’s a small space. To balance the pattern of the wallpaper, we paired it with neutral furniture and accents, allowing the wallpaper to be the star of the show without overwhelming the small nursery.

To complement the pink floral wallpaper, we layered neutrals with blush pink accents throughout the nursery. We chose a light wood crib to add warmth to the space and paired it with a blush pink crib sheet and a neutral-colored crib skirt. The glider and ottoman are also neutral, but we added a blush pink changing pad cover and throw blankets to tie in with the overall color scheme. Additionally, we used a neutral area rug with a subtle pattern to anchor the room and add texture.

Lighting is very important in a nursery, so we added flexible window treatments. The double layer window treatments not only provide privacy and light control, but they also add depth and texture to the room. We used a neutral-colored blackout shade as the first layer and blush pink blackout curtains as the second layer. The curtains also help to soften the room and add a touch of elegance.

An open bookcase, or etagere, is an excellent storage solution for a nursery. It provides ample space for books, toys, and other baby essentials while keeping them organized and within easy reach. However, there are some safety concerns to keep in mind. We had this bookcase anchored to the wall so it won’t wiggle or fall over. Also, we replaced the glass shelves with acrylic ones, so there is no glass in the room. The art piece over the glider also has acrylic instead of real glass!

This nursery was small, so we used the closet to help maximize on space. First, we added new doors with mirrored fronts. This helps to open up the space visually. Plus, babies love looking at themselves in the mirror! Next, the inside of the closet was redone with adjustable wardrobe bars, baby hangers, and some extra drawers on the other side. Organization is key, but flexibility is even better!

We love how this design came out! This was actually the second nursery we designed for this client. Here is the first nursery we designed, for her first daughter. We wanted to make sure each nursery felt unique, but that they also flowed together.

A few weeks ago, we revealed a Neutral Coastal Boy’s Room Virtual Design, and now we’re on to his sister’s nursery! This client was moving into a new home and needed both of the children’s rooms to be designed. We started with the boy’s room since he was older and was more in need of an immediate sleep situation. After that was complete, we design this pretty girl’s nursery!

This nursery was a nice sized room with a vaulted ceiling, and you know what that means—room for a statement chandelier! The client wanted this space to be soft and feminine with whites, neutrals and some blush. She also wanted a wallpaper for the crib wall since it was vaulted and framed in two small windows.

To warm up the space, we brought in some light woods, like the crib, floor lamp and base of the ottoman. The house also had brand new wood flooring installed in that same light wood color, so it coordinated well. Our client loved scalloping detail as well, so we found a sweet dresser that has a scalloped edge at the bottom. We mirrored this shape on the opposite side of the nursery with a floral piece of art. When using any kind of ornate detailing like scalloping, it’s important to keep it simple and subtle.

To bring in some texture, we went with a boucle textured glider, cozy glider blanket and neutral rug. The wallpaper is a subtle floral pattern, but brings in just enough blush to stand out! We added in a few other blush and rose colored accents throughout the room so it feels feminine but not overly sweet or babyish.

We’ve had a full year of E-Designs, and are already booked for the remainder of 2022! E-Designs are always so fun to work on because they allow us to reach a wider group of clients, not just those in Southern California. This client came to us from Texas, and wanted to design her girl’s nursery. She wanted something with blush and gold, but also wanted to include both some modern and vintage inspired elements, and a little glam.

This nursery is on the small side, as most are, but we still had room for all the necessities. We placed the crib on the back wall and accented it with some gorgeous ombre blush wallpaper. The glider fit right into the corner by the window, and the dresser is on the wall not pictured. We included some gold wall ledges for books, and also an open clothing storage rack since this room doesn’t have a large closet. Since the clothing rack is free-standing, we chose a high quality piece that will have good stability if the baby starts to pull on it. It’s also highly recommended that any bookcase or tall item be strapped to the wall.

We stayed neutral for the other major furniture items but opted for texture and rich textiles, such as the velvet for the glider and ottoman. The rug has a very subtle pattern which gives some dimension to the floor and adds a little modern boho to the mix. This blends well with the carved floor lamp and fluted side table!

Art is always a little challenging in certain rooms because it can be such a personal choice. We knew we wanted a standout piece for the crib wall for this particular room, and definitely something vintage inspired. Landscapes are always gorgeous, and we found such a pretty piece with the right colors and feel. Instead of a vintage ornate gold frame, we decided to go more modern and neutral to pull the whole room together.

The crystal chandelier is another standout piece in the room. We wanted to show some glitz and glam by adding some crystal. When we saw this floral pattern, we knew it was the one! It’s a large piece yet seems dainty simultaneously with its crystal leaves and the way it is suspended with the gold chain.

This nursery design reveal has been a long time coming! It’s been in the works for quite some time (as you may have seen on our Instagram), but we had a long delay on the butterfly chandelier, so we had to wait until that got installed to photograph. Covid-related delays are still a huge problem in the design industry, but luckily the nursery furniture industry is fairing better. So excited to finally get to share this nursery with you!

The biggest statement in this nursery is, of course, the blush peony wallpaper. It’s so pretty in person and has an almost watercolor-like feel. Our client wanted this nursery to be on the traditional side, but also wanted some modern elements, so we went with the all acrylic crib. Having the acrylic crib also helps the room feel more open, and doesn’t block as much of the wallpaper wall.

We kept the rug on the more neutral side so as not to compete with the wallpaper. It’s a gorgeous pattern with swirling soft colors in neutrals and pinks, and it’s super soft too. It didn’t photograph the best, but it really is a stunner in person.

You can see the whole gold butterfly chandelier in this shot! This piece was backordered for months, and then even more months, but it finally came and ties the whole room together! You can also see that we had space for a two chairs in this nursery, which is a huge bonus since both parents can relax in here at the same time (or grandparents). One is a regular nursery glider and the other is an accent chair. There’s also a bench as well!

There were also a lot of windows in here, so we ended up going with fully custom blackout drapery to make sure we didn’t have any light-leak issues. If you look closely, you can see the blush detailing down the sides of the drapery.

Even though we had statement wallpaper in this nursery, the artwork over the changing table is probably the most spectacular thing in the room. These pieces are large and actually 3D—the butterflies are paper cut outs that fly on top of the chinoiserie background. It also has an ombre tone, so it fades from neutral to blush. It’s seriously amazing!

For the changing table, we went with a white dresser. You can’t see in the photos, but the dresser has a texture on it which gives it even more appeal. We added the acrylic changing tray to coordinate with the acrylic crib and add a little extra organization.

And those peonies—those are faux! They are absolutely the best faux flowers I’ve ever seen. They even feel real!

We also decided to add a little mobile over the crib for a little extra detail. It’s lightweight and hung high enough that the baby can’t reach it when she’s old enough to stand up in the crib.

If you’re curious about our nursery design process, we created the rendering above for the client. We did a few versions of this until we landed on the right edits. We created a floor plan as well, and a big shopping list for all the items so everything is all organized and easy to keep track of. This was a local nursery design here in Orange County, but we also do E-Designs all across the country!

We had a client in Los Angeles, CA, who was looking to have a nursery designed for their second child. The home was on the modern side, but furnished with some beachy and bohemian touches. So naturally, they wanted the nursery to feel like it flowed with the house, but to also have some flair of its own.

The room had a high vaulted ceiling and they knew right away that they wanted wallpaper in the space. When we saw it in person, it was so clear how perfect that would be! The light from the window was soft and natural and really highlighted the accent wall, which just so happened to be where the crib was going!

As with any nursery design that has wallpaper, the first step is choosing that pattern. The entire color palette of the room will depend on that wallpaper, so it always needs to get chosen early on. We chose a bunch of samples, mostly in neutral and blush tones, and eventually settled on this gorgeous leafy pattern. In person, it has such a variety of colors! There’s blush, taupe, gray, and even a hint of lavender and blue, so that allowed us to pull from that with the rest of the design.

The furniture is mismatched, which is a look that we’re loving more and more these days! The crib is white and gold and has a more modern feel, while the dresser is a distressed gray with a more traditional style. The neutral glider is right in between, helping to pull the two styles together.

As I mentioned above, the window was large and bright, so it was important to add window treatments to really block out the light. We added a white roman shade and layered blush blackout curtains on top for flexibility and a finished look.

Since the wallpaper had a leaf design, we pulled in some other accents that had something similar, like the side table and mirror that both have leaf inlay details. The gray color of those items also pulls from the gray in the wallpaper, while the distressed texture of the dresser adds a relaxed feel to that side of the room.

We took great care choosing the artwork in this room because any artwork that gets hung on top of wallpaper will damage the wallpaper where it’s hung (where the nail holes go). We found this set of feather art prints that were so sweet, and pulled in some great color. They came in a set with glass, so the first thing we did was remove the glass and replace it with light-weight plexiglass. However, they still went over the crib, so we took many extra safety precautions when installing. They have security hardware on the back, and then we adhered them to the wall with an extra adhesive just ti be triple-safe!
