In my 18+ years of being a nursery designer, it’s always so interesting to see which design trends stick and which ones don’t. Two of the nursery trends that have turned into outright classics are floral wallpaper and blush pink. The florals have changed a bit over time—nowadays most people are leaning into the smaller scale patterns over the large scale florals, but the idea is the same. Florals are a mainstay in nursery design!

This Virtual Design client wanted a floral nursery with an accent wallpaper wall and lots of blush pink accents. We initially started with a more Chinoiserie pattern wallpaper with some green tones woven in, but eventually settled on a softer blush pink peony wallpaper. Since it’s only an accent wall, the pattern doesn’t overwhelm the space.

Instead of going with all white furniture, we wanted to mix in some gold. Blush pink, gold and white are such a classic pairing for girl’s nurseries, and it’s clear why. We chose a gold metal crib and paired it with a small white changing table with gold knobs to coordinate. The neutral tufted glider balances the space while also bringing in some soft texture, and the tufting detail adds to the traditional flair of the overall design.

We also had space for a bookcase in this room, but instead of going for a chunky piece of furniture, we chose a gold etagere instead. I love an etagere because they take up less “visual space”, and can be more easily attached to the wall for safety. And speaking of safety, whenever using a bookcase that has glass shelves like this one, it’s a good idea to replace the glass with acrylic. Just measure the glass and order acrylic cut-to-size either at a local frame shop or online. We usually do 1/4″ thick acrylic for an application like this since it will hold more weight.

Now for the blush pink! We already had the blush peonies wallpaper, so we added in some blush pink blackout curtains, a blush pink velvet pillow for the glider, and some gorgeous pink peony art prints for over the cirb (and again, these are framed with acrylic instead of glass and heavily secured). We also brought in a few scallop details for softness in the scalloped wall shelves, scalloped storage bin and scalloped floor lamp.

The last few details just brought in sophistication to the design, like the gold and white chandelier, the gold arch wall mirror and the neutral patterned rug. And of course, a storage ottoman! Keep an eye out for more updates on this pretty blush pink nursery!

For this virtual design project, I had the opportunity to design a sweet girls’ bedroom that feels classic, cozy, and full of charm. A few years ago, we also designed this client’s nursery for her baby boy. For her girl’s room, she wanted a space that leaned traditional and timeless (something their daughter can grow into), but still feels soft and feminine. The end result is the perfect blend of elegant details, warm wood tones, and a dreamy color palette of blush pink and sage green.

The overall look of the room is light, airy, and calming, thanks to the combination of blush pink and sage green. These colors work so beautifully together—soft and sweet without feeling overly juvenile. The velvet pink curtains add a romantic touch and frame the window behind the bed, while the sage green gingham upholstered headboard brings in a subtle pattern and a tailored, classic shape. It’s a statement piece, but still feels classic and timeless.

To keep everything feeling grounded and sophisticated, we layered in deeper wood tones throughout the design. The warm wood nightstands add richness and contrast, and they balance the softer pastel colors perfectly. One of my favorite parts of this project was getting to incorporate the client’s antique tallboy dresser. This piece has so much character, and because it’s a meaningful family item, it instantly made the room feel more personal. Its vintage detailing and rich finish helped guide the overall design direction and really brought that traditional feel to life.

To finish off the space, we added cozy layers and sweet, classic styling touches. A large neutral rug softens the room and adds texture, while the framed lamb artwork and floral prints bring in that timeless, collected look. I also loved adding in playful details like the pastel dollhouse, scallop wall shelves and plush accents—those little touches keep the room feeling fun and kid-friendly while still staying true to the overall style.

This room ended up feeling warm, timeless, and truly special. It’s a space that feels polished and elevated, but still soft enough for childhood—and I love that it includes a meaningful heirloom piece that will always make it feel like home.

After years of neutral nurseries, our clients have started dipping their toes into more pattern and color. We recently created a Virtual Nursery Design for a client who didn’t want to dip in her toes—she wanted to jump right in! She wanted maximalism, lots of pattern and color, and traditional details in her girl’s nursery.

We started this virtual design with a Zoom call—that face to face time with a new client is so important for gathering details about their needs and preferences. Then we create the nursery floor plan to make sure we know what sizes and shapes of furniture pieces to shop for. In this case, we had quite a large room to work with! We had space for a crib, dresser and glider, as well as a sofa (which mom specifically requested so she can nap in the nursery).

Then we started on the nursery design! The client already knew that she loved this blue pattern wallpaper and we ran with it. Since the wallpaper is pretty bold, we wanted to keep the nursery furniture light and bright so it wouldn’t overwhelm the space. We chose a white crib, white dresser with a sweet scallop detail, and a glider in lavender (which pull out some of the lavender tones from the abstract art pieces).

In a maximalist nursery, window treatments are key! We added a scallop valance on top of the blackout curtains to frame them in and add softness. The light blue sofa also coordinates with the artwork and the other scallop and colorful details pull the whole nursery together.

Some additional tips for using Maximalism in a nursery:

1. Incorporate solids to break up pattern. Maximalism is all about mixing patterns, but it can be a nice visual break to add in some solids too (especially in a nursery since they are generally small spaces).

2. Don’t be afraid of mixing. Like both a floral pattern and plaid? Use them both! As long as the colors coordinate and they aren’t too similar in scale, mixing patterns is a great way to bring in visual interest and fun!

3. Layer textures too. Nurseries are all about being cozy, so consider texture along with pattern when you’re choosing pieces for your space.

4. Create a focal point. In a nursery, this is generally the crib. If you don’t want to commit to whole-room wallpaper, maybe just add accent wallpaper behind the crib. Or hang an oversized piece of art to create a feature wall. Just make sure anything that you hang over the crib doesn’t contain any glass and is extremely well secured!

It’s been the year of Virtual Designs! We’re so lucky to have so many amazing clients all across the country. This week we have another Virtual nursery to reveal, this time for a family in New Jersey. They had a modern home and wanted to infuse their nursery with modern touches and fun color, while still coordinating with the flow of their home. They wanted a subtle accent wallpaper with touches of blue, and loved lighter wood furniture.

You can see in the below floor plan that we had space for the crib, dresser and glider, and then were also able to fit in a bookcase and some wall hooks by the door. You can also see that the crib and dresser are fairly close together—when this happens, it’s great to add things in that corner so it doesn’t feel strange and empty. We added a floor plant and a storage bin, along with some display wall ledges.

We knew the client wanted an accent wallpaper, so we started there. She loved a more sage green and also loved the modern paneling look, so we actually found a wallpaper that had a geometric design that looked like some of her paneling inspiration images. Next, we tackled the nursery furniture. We did need a smaller dresser in here and found a great two-toned piece to coordinate with the light wood crib. The rest of the home had a lot of white as well, so it flows nicely.

For a fun pop of color, we used pale blue blackout curtains and a darker slate blue bookcase. Both colors are represented in the abstract art piece above the crib, tying it all together. We added in a few more neutral accents to warm up the space like the tan ottoman, wood side table, woven storage bin and linen light fixture.

Welcome back to our series on turning AI generated nursery designs into reality! Today, we’re starting with a nursery design that embodies tranquility, light and airy charm. The nursery design that we asked AI to create features a palette of neutrals and soft pinks, and a touch of greenery. Then we created an entirely new design with real items that you can shop (since AI designs use made-up products). Let’s dive into the details of this dreamy space!

When it comes to designing a serene nursery, the choice of colors is paramount. We opted for a soothing palette of neutrals and soft pinks to create a calm and inviting atmosphere. The walls are wallpapered in a gentle creamy faux bois pattern, providing the perfect backdrop for soft pink accents. From the plush floral rug to the delicate sheer window treatments, every element harmoniously blends to offer a space that is both elegant and cozy.

No nursery is complete without a few charming details that add character and warmth. In this design, we included a few vibrant green plants to bring a touch of nature indoors. This also adds a pop of color. Additionally, a plush stuffed elephant sits adorably in the corner with a rattan hamper for added texture. We brought in a gorgeous burl wood dresser for an additional layer of visual interest. Above the dresser we chose a casted floral round mirror to subtly tie into the space. These elements infuse the room with personality and make it truly unique.

Functionality meets style with the inclusion of a light wood crib that anchors the room. The crib’s natural wood tones complement the neutral palette. The crib sheet is a pretty pink animal theme that also matches the changing pad to balance both sides of the room. Underfoot, the plush floral rug adds a subtle and whimsical flare. The rug also introduces a layer of softness and comfort, perfect for tummy time and play.

Transforming these AI generated nursery designs into real-life shoppable designs has been an exciting adventure! We have another beautiful nursery design generated using AI technology that we’ve turned into a real-life shoppable design! You may have seen some of our previous AI nursery designs, such as the Moody Blue Floral Nursery and Parisian Charm Nursery. For this one, we decided to go a little darker with the colors. Green is such a popular color right now in nursery design and goes perfectly in this space.

AI generated design continues to be a great resource for us to explore the possibilities in a space. But for now, AI designs are not real, and the products that AI comes up with don’t exist. Not to worry! We’ve once again put together a real-life design board and shopping list for you inspired by this lovely dark green nursery design.

We started by asking AI to design a moody dark green nursery with wood tones and natural finishes. The design above is what it came up with, and it’s gorgeous! The dark green and panel molding add so much depth to the space, and the wood crib and decor bring warmth. The dark green and light wood combination also offers a bit of contrast and balance.

Next, we started looking for real products in this same style. We wanted to make sure to balance the wall color with the rug. Doing this kept the room from feeling too cool. Wainscoting brought in some much needed texture and dimension to the rich color on the walls. We also brought in more texture with textiles like the wobbly basket, blanket, pillow, lamp and the boucle ottoman.

The AI nursery didn’t show a dresser or glider, so we chose some that we think coordinated well with the design. We also rounded out the design with a storage ottoman, some wall ledges for books, a mirror, and some lighting.

We try not to be overt with themes in our nursery designs but we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to play with woodland elements because the colors are so perfect for it. We went the subtle route and just added in a few rabbit wall hooks. The hooks brought in brass elements as well to coordinate with the mirror and the accent on the chandelier.

This is the second installment in our AI Inspiration to Reality Series. In case you missed the first one, we started with an AI inspiration nursery with a French vibe in soft pinks and turned it into a design board full of real shop-able items. AI is an amazing tool for interior design, but so far it doesn’t create images with actual pieces. See our newest design below!

The above nursery was designed using an AI model and it turned out absolutely stunning! We wanted to design a nursery with moody blues, vintage touches, nature themed wallpaper and orange themed artwork. The AI nursery design came out so pretty, but the catch is that none of these items are real. AI not only creates the room design, but it creates everything in it as well, so all the furniture and decor are “made up”. We loved how this nursery came out so much that we went on a search for real products to recreate it!

This is the same moody blue nursery design, but with real products. We looked high and low for items as similar as possible to the AI inspiration image, and we got pretty close! We started with a light wood crib and an oak dresser with vintage style hardware. We found a blue and white tree wallpaper that’s absolutely stunning and super close to the original!

Since the paneling and woodwork is such a large part of the AI version, we also included that in ours. We added a board and batten style wood paneling in a moody slate blue and then found a slate blue bookcase to give that same color some height in the space.

Next, we chose a neutral patterned rug with similar orange and blue details which is also very similar to the AI generated design. We found a neutral nursery rocker with the same shape and color as the original as well, and paired that with a small pouf ottoman.

The statement orange themed artwork is also pretty close! It even has a similar gold frame. Then we filled in the nursery with other decor, like the faux fiddle leaf fig tree, woven chandelier, table lamp on the dresser and throw blanket.

The whole interior design industry is talking about AI design—a lot of designers are experimenting with what it can do (and what it can’t). So far, we’re able to create stunning nursery inspiration images…but the caveat is that they aren’t real. The products that AI uses when designing are completely made up, so you can’t find them anywhere.

The Parisian style nursery above was something we designed with AI, so none of those items are real things you can purchase. While that’s a bummer, it also created a fun challenge for us! So we decided to take some of our favorite AI designed nurseries and turn them into real life designs you can actually shop!

Below is the design we came up with. We pulled as many products as we could that were close in style to the original AI design. And I have to say, I think we got pretty close. We started with the floral wallpaper since that’s a big part of the design. Then we chose a white crib and dresser with a similar feel to the ones in the AI image.

As you can see, we pulled a lot of items that weren’t even shown in the original AI designed image, such as the dresser, glider, mirror and artwork. But since we’re creating a whole nursery design, we wanted to pull every item that you’d need to fill out the whole design concept. How do you think it turned out?

AI for interior designers is a rapidly expanding subject, and we’re having a lot of fun with it at the moment. It’s a great inspirational tool so long as you’re aware that it doesn’t create anything “real”, at least not yet!
