I am so excited to share a beautiful new nursery I recently completed for a client here in SoCal. This client was looking for a gender-neutral nursery that felt calming, classic, and serene. We landed on a really soothing color scheme using layered neutral tones, pretty pops of sage green, and a gorgeous mix of wood finishes.
Whenever I’m designing a gender-neutral space, I like to start with a strong foundation of neutrals and layer in lots of texture. For this one, we leaned into soft, earthy colors. The sage green accents—like that cute painted bookcase and the crib bedding—ground the room without losing that bright, airy feel. Below is the finished 3D rendering of the room.
One of my favorite things about this nursery design is how we brought in the family’s passions. My client is a huge traveler, so we wanted to add a subtle nod to a few of their favorite destinations. We found the sweetest pair of travel-themed art prints to hang above the crib, and we customized the colors to fit the room. We also made sure to frame them with acrylic and had them heavily secured.
To give the space some visual depth, we chose mixed wood nursery furniture. The warmth of the honey tone cane crib works so well next to the more washed and textured dresser. Texture is everything in mostly neutral nursery design, so we made sure to weave it in everywhere. We included a neutral glider and matching neutral storage ottoman, plush faux-sheepskin rug layered over a larger vintage-inspired rug, and even included texture with the woven light fixture.
The big challenge in this nursery was the very large window. It’s a small nursery, so the only option for the dresser was to put it under the window. To combat all the bright light, we installed custom length blackout curtains that span almost the whole wall.
