It’s been a busy summer! We’ve been hard at work on lots of nursery design projects, but I wanted to share one we recently completed for Sophie Elkus. Sophie is having twins so we were tasked with turning her guest room into a nursery for two. She wanted a traditional style with some modern elements, blues with hints of blush, and beautiful florals.

This room has a very high vaulted ceiling, so we knew we needed to start with the wallpaper. Sophie was leaning toward doing a low paneling with wallpaper above, so we just needed to find the right pattern. It took a while, but we found the perfect print! We went with a stunning blue Chinoiserie wallpaper with birds and florals throughout. The wall paneling below helps to break up the pattern because the ceiling are so high.

Next, the nursery furniture! Since she was having twins, we knew we needed something small and flexible to start with. We chose the Babyletto Yuzu 8-in-1 Convertible Cribs to give her tons of options to use as the babies grow. And because they also have wheels, they can easily move them around as needed. Since the paneling was white, we chose the cribs in the Natural finish to bring in some warmth and to coordinate with the woven window shades.

The nursery had a window area niche which was perfect for the glider. We chose the Babyletto Kiwi Plus Glider in Boucle to keep things feeling light, but add some texture. We also added the Babyletto Enoki Storage Ottoman because every nursery can always use as much storage as possible—especially with two babies!

We didn’t do artwork over the cribs because we already had the wallpaper, but also because this nursery design will shift over time. I spent a while working with Sophie on how the room and cribs can transition once the babies are too big for the bassinets. We did add some scalloped wall ledges for books and other small items, and opted for a sweet blush hanging mobile over the cribs for a little extra visual interest. We added in some other scalloped decor items throughout as well, like the scalloped storage bins and scalloped floor lamp.

The nursery already had built-in cabinets, so we didn’t need to get a new dresser. Instead, we switched out the knobs with new gold floral knobs to bring in the floral theme. They make such a difference! We added a neutral silicone changing pad, cane tiered diaper caddy and some luscious smelling hand sanitizer from Paume (which just so happens to be beautiful as well).

This nursery for twins has been so fun to design, and we can’t wait to see how it develops over time. The flexibility of the convertible cribs will be so helpful, and the wallpaper pattern is sure to last for years to come.
