Neutral Nursery E-Design with Celestial Accents

We’ve got another nursery E-Design reveal ready for you with some very unique details! This client was in the process of building a new home, so we had a completely clean slate for the nursery design. They had already pulled some pieces for the rest of the home in shades of grays and whites with gold accents, so we wanted to make sure the nursery flowed with the rest of the home. Of course, we wanted the nursery to feel a little more whimsical, and our client mentioned that she liked some celestial elements, so we used that as a very subtle theme in the design.

We spent some time finding the right wallpaper, but once we did, the whole room came together! The wallpaper is so stunning in person and metallic touches in it. It also came in a bunch of color options, so we ordered samples to see them in person first. We ended up going with this more taupe option so the room didn’t feel too dark.

This room was a decent size and the client wanted to have more than one seating option, so we were able to play around with options there. We landed on a transitional nursery glider and then added a bench for another adult to sit. The clients also wanted to make sure they could use their flat screen TV in the space, so we put that over the dresser (which is easily viewed from the glider).

We always like to include and upgrade any existing lighting when designing nurseries. This nursery already had recessed lighting, but we added a gorgeous chandelier, a floor lamp and a table lamp. That way, there are many options for lighting available, which is important in a nursery. All the lighting pieces together give the room a balanced look while giving a subtle nod to the celestial theme!

Overall, this design hits all of the client’s asks while staying true to being modern and transitional. We love the blend of the theme with the sophistication of the pieces that can stay in the room for years to come!

A Playful Modern Nursery with a Touch of Glamour

This E-Design client came to us wanting their nursery design to be modern colorful, and fun! They had an art piece already—a large photograph by Gray Malin—that they wanted to include in the nursery. So we had a good starting point! Pulling accent colors from the art, we incorporated black and white, lavender, blue and a touch of orange around the whole space.

The room they had to use for the nursery was reasonably large with ample space to include all the items the clients wanted. Because of the tall ceiling in the room, it was easy to decide to add wallpaper to it to add some depth and dimension. It also has a small hallway leading to the coset that added excellent wall space for a pop of color (that’s the blue you see above on the very left). We also included some wall hooks and a little bench in that hallway.

With all the vibrant accent colors pulled from the photo above the crib, we wanted to leave the rest of the main items in blacks and whites, adding pops throughout. We also included some animal accents with the cowhide ottoman and standing giraffe! The black glider grounds the room in a bold color while making all the other colors around it shine. It’s also a stunning shape and design!

We wanted to add more seating since the room was large enough to accommodate it. The little emerald green bench was a great find for the space, and just big enough so both parents can sit comfortably in the nursery. There is also a second Gray Malin photograph from the client’s collection to add balance to the space.

Designing nurseries is our favorite things to do, whether they are more traditional or bold like this one. We loved that these clients weren’t afraid of color or pattern! A Shared Nursery Design with Subtle Jungle Details

Sometimes designing a nursery dedicated to just the baby isn’t an option. If you have a nursery space that needs to double-function as an office or guest room, you may need to create a co-space. That way, the baby can ease into crib sleeping while the room is still available for guests, and you can keep things flexible. We work with clients all the time who need to fit a sofa, daybed, desk or other item in the nursery. It’s usually a challenge, but if things fit it’s great to have a double-duty space!

In this nursery design above, the space can be used both as a nursery and a little seating area/spot for sleeping. Having a larger sofa in a nursery is great because it can be used to take a little snooze, or if a parent/caregiver needs to sleep in the nursery on occasion. Getting a sofa with a sleeper function is also an option if there is space for the pull-out. We paired the sofa with one of our favorite cribs that starts out as a bassinet and then converts to a full size crib and toddler bed.

The color palette of the design is subtle and neutral, creating an almost jungle-like theme with the fabulous wall mural and other natural elements. The neutral colors of this nursery were intentional to elevate it a bit so it flows with the rest of the home. Neutral color palettes can also help with a room’s transition from infant to toddler since it’s easier to add in new pieces (or more color)!

Functionality is a huge factor in nurseries that are shared. For example, the wire bin can be a clothing hamper, toy bin, or just general storage spot. The crib is entirely convertible and on wheels, so it can be moved throughout the room or ultimately moved completely out of the room if needed.

A Nursery Design with Paneling and Warm Wood

We’ve been super inspired by board and batten style wall paneling lately, and wanted to share this gorgeous dark nursery that features this type of paneling. Paneling is an excellent alternative to wallpaper and adds much more texture than paint (however it can be more expensive and is definitely more permanent). With paneling, you have a couple of options—panel the entire room, just an accent wall, or even just half or a quarter of the walls. It also comes in a ton of options such as square, rectangle, or more ornamental designs. The options are bountiful!

For the nursery design above, we used a wide panel board and batten look and then highlighted the space with contemporary elements such as acrylic and modern shapes. Pulling in different textures and design styles creates a timeless look that can evolve with age. With clean lines, durability, and unlimited color and design styles, paneling could be the perfect option for your nursery.

Paint color can vary from neutrals to bold, depending on your intended result. For example, small ornamental paneling with neutral colors has a more traditional feel while wide paneling in a square pattern is more modern. You can paint the paneling the same color as the wall for a monochromatic feel, of change it up for higher contrast.

Installing paneling can be tricky as it needs to be pretty accurate, level, and clean. There are many tutorials online these days if you are looking to DIY. Paint can forgive blemishes here and there, but without experience, it’s usually a good idea to have a contractor help out with this.

So back to this nursery design—the paneling is a rich dark charcoal/blue, and we wanted the furniture to stand out against it. We went with a warm wood tone to contrast the cool paneling color, and to give the room a cozy feel. White furniture would have worked as well, but it would have taken the design in a totally different direction.

We also pulled in some gold details to add more warmth, and a few fun shapes to give the space some movement, like the area rug, side table and planter. The last touch is a few natural pieces, like the rattan hamper and ottoman so the nursery feels welcoming.

E-Design Reveal: Elegant Neutral and Blush Nursery

We’ve got another E-Design reveal for you on the blog today! This one was our Premium package which includes a full rendering which you can see below. Sometimes it’s easier for a client to visualize the whole space when it’s drawn out in a rendering rather than just a design board.

This client had a home with a lot of white walls, and she wanted to give the nursery a full overhaul. It started as just an empty white room! She loves French style interiors and artwork, especially French landscape paintings, and wanted to include lots of neutrals, gold accents and touches of blush pink. We started with white nursery furniture that had a little traditional detailing, and a glider with a wingback design for a more formal look. Not too traditional, but somewhere in between.

Next we chose the wall mural. Since the client loved neutrals and a French look, this gorgeous crane wall mural worked so well. It’s neutral and soft and has such a beautiful watercolor look. We kept the rug in here neutral as well so as not to take away from the wall mural.

To get the blush pink accents, we chose some blush blackout curtains, a blush marble lamp and a few other accessories to give the nursery some balance. The gold accents are worked in as well, such as the etagere, mirror and chandelier.

As you can see in the floor plan below, the room isn’t huge, but has just enough room to include all the pieces we needed. There was a little extra space on the right side wall for a small etagere, and a plant fit perfect in the corner next to the crib.

I’m so happy with how this nursery design came out! That wall mural has my heart and the whole room just feels so serene.

Virtual Design Reveal: A Sophisticated Nursery with Bold Art

Softness and texture are two design elements that have been super popular lately, and for good reason. Texture adds interest and warmth while softness adds coziness and a safe feeling that so many people want for their nursery.

This Virtual Design client sent in her inspiration photos and there was a lot of texture along with a clean transitional design. She also mentioned that she wanted a space with a big, bold piece of artwork to really stand out, along with some little fun modern touches. As for the color scheme, she wanted something with neutrals and some pops of blush and green.

To bring in those modern accents, we started with a white acrylic crib and white dresser with a fun circle shape accent. The floor plan in this nursery worked out so that when you walk into the room, you see the side of the crib. Having acrylic sides not only looks great, but also makes it easier to see into the crib from the hallway at that angle.

As you can see in the floor plan above, there is a closet with bi-fold doors at the top, so we needed to place the glider a little bit away from that in order to have access to those doors. Luckily there was room to do that! So there is a nice seating area with the neutral glider, ottoman and side table, along with a storage bin for toys.

Since this room was on the larger side, we were able to get a 9×12 rug in here. It’s pushed up against the right side of the room so it doesn’t get stuck under the door swings. Then to balance it on the crib wall, we added a washable faux sheepskin accent rug (one of my all-time favorite nursery additions).

The main piece of decor in this nursery is, of course, the amazing statement wall art. It’s a large piece and we suggested to the client to have it framed in plexiglass (no real glass above the crib) and secure the heck out of it. The client is located in a state that doesn’t have earthquakes, but it’s still always a good idea to heavily secure anything going over the crib. To top off the design, we added some gold accents like the ceiling fan, floor lamp and mirror above the changing table.

Virtual Design Reveal: Gray & Navy Nursery with Walnut Crib

Another nursery Virtual Design reveal headed your way! This client wanted a nursery that was warm and inviting, and that had some deeper colors. She really loved the idea of using dark wood nursery furniture to give a richness to the space, and we decided to accent that with navy, gray and a touch of gold.

The soon-to-be-nursery was a bright space with a very large window, so there is plenty of natural light. However, the space isn’t huge (most nurseries are small), so it was important not to overwhelm the space with dark tones even though there was a lot of natural light. We decided on a walnut crib and a navy dresser, but kept the walls, blackout curtains, glider and rug on the lighter side. To give the nursery some vibrancy, we chose some fun navy wall decals in an abstract design. This way, the wall has interest, but it’s not a full wall of dark navy.

As you can see in the floor plan above, there was enough space to get nice furniture pieces in here, and a small attached closet as well. We were able to get an 8×10 rug in here which will really help to open up the floor. We also had space to add a floor bin, plant, side table and ottoman, so this nursery will be super functional! Pro tip: Don’t forget to plan for things that need to sit on the floor, like the diaper pail and storage bins!

As with all our nursery designs, the details are so important! We pulled in a little gold to warm up the space by using a chandelier, wall mirror and floor lamp that all had gold in them. To balance the walnut crib, we used walnut wall ledges on the other side of the room. To balance the navy dresser, we used a navy side table (and of course the fun navy wall decals).

Part of the reason we went with wall decals instead of wallpaper is that our client didn’t want to put any artwork over the crib. Wallpaper and wall decals are great for using above a crib since they add tons of style, but don’t pose any safety risk. Of course, there are ways to safely add artwork over a crib as well, which many parents opt to do.

Virtual Design Reveal: Girl’s Neutral Nursery with Blues and Greens

I’ve been working hard on nursery Virtual Designs and have another fun one to reveal today! This client contacted me to create a soothing and neutral nursery for her baby girl. She wanted a transitional style, not too traditional or modern, but with some touches of both.

She also wanted a removable wallpaper accent wall with a soft pretty pattern and loved florals. She specified in her e-design questionnaire that she wanted blues and greens with neutrals, and gold was her favorite metallic.

One of the best things about the room she wanted to use as the nursery was that it had a very large arched window. The room gets a lot of natural light, and the window itself served as an architectural design element for the space.

We started with the floor plan, as you can see above, and utilized the large window as a spot to put a little seating area (and bonus storage). We put the crib and glider on the back wall, which is also the wallpaper accent wall. There is a nice big rug to cover most of the floor, and lots of little spots for bins and baskets.

The floral wallpaper pattern is so sweet, and since it’s removable, there is no risk! I absolutely love using removable wallpaper in nursery designs. I wrote a blog post a while back noting some of my favorite removable wallpapers for nurseries and kid’s rooms if you want to check that out.

For the nursery furniture, we went with more modern pieces to give the room some balance. The crib is a clean design, and the dresser is a modern shape with a pretty gold accent. We balanced the gold accents by using a gold wall name over the crib, wall mirror and curtain hardware so everything flows together. And of course, there are some great blackout curtains over that big window (and if you look closely, you’ll see they have a touch of blue in them as well).

Then came the details and decor! I absolutely love using blue in girl’s nursery designs—I’m a firm believer that you should use whatever colors you like for a nursery, no matter the gender. So we added some pretty slate blue accents, along with some touches of green, neutrals and a hint of blush.

Whimsical Shared Nursery & Kid’s Bedroom for Sisters

Every now and then a project will come along that’s a little different. We work on so many nursery designs and a fair amount of kid’s rooms, but rarely do we do them at the same time. A Virtual Design client needed a room designed for her two girls that were going to share a space. The house was brand new and they weren’t bringing anything with them, so we started from scratch.

She knew she wanted a soft wallpaper with a greenery/nature feel, and lots of neutrals with some pops of blush pink. We started with this beautiful eucalyptus leaves removable wallpaper and a house shaped bed to give the older sister a sense of her own space within the shared room. Since the room was functioning as a nursery as well, she definitely still needed blackout curtains, so we chose some with a pretty texture to give the room an elevated feel.

As you can see in the floor plan above, this space was a little tricky. As with most nurseries and kid’s rooms, this space was on the smaller side, and had an odd angled wall. The two windows prevented us from putting the crib near that area for safety reasons. The crib is also closest to the door, which will come in handy if the baby needs tending without disturbing her sister in the bed.

Luckily there were two large closets to use in the room which worked out great since we didn’t have room for a dresser. The crib has some storage drawers at the bottom which will help a little for smaller baby items, and we added some wall shelves as well for a small display. There is also a neutral storage bin and a pretty blush storage bin to help with bulkier items.

As for decor, we went for some Scandinavian inspired rainbow art pieces that coordinate with the cute soft rainbow bedding. A nightstand and side table also add some additional functionality, and a surface for a lamp, small plant, etc. Since the space was small, we chose a large neutral rug to give the floor a more expansive look. Overall, I love how this space came out and think it will work great for these sisters!

A Modern Natural Nursery Reveal with Soft Neutrals

It’s time for another nursery e-design reveal! This client came to us wanting a nursery that was all things natural. It was super important to her to have organic products, non-toxic finishes and eco-friendly materials when possible. Luckily, the nursery decor world has expanded so much in recent years, so finding these products isn’t as hard as it used to be.

The room was on the larger side, which meant we were able to include a few little vignette areas, like a bookcase with wall hooks for some extra storage, and a bench for adult seating with some bins for toy storage.

The windows in this room were a bit of a challenge because they connect in the corner. This means that a regular curtain rod can’t be used, so instead, we suggested using corner brackets. We use corner brackets frequently for rooms that have corner windows—it allows you to still get full coverage from the blackout curtains (with no light leaking in through that corner). This room had very high ceilings, so we ended up going with custom blackout curtains.

We chose a natural wood crib with no harmful finishes, a Greenguard Gold certified glider, organic crib sheets, a non-toxic rug, and lots of other organic accessories.

I love that we had space to create this little seating area! If there is space, having extra seating can be so wonderful in a nursery since it provides seating when there are more people in the nursery. We also had a spot for a bookcase, so we chose a pretty light wood option to coordinate with the crib. The rounded top of the bookcase mirrors the curves of the glider, giving balance to the space.

We finished off the space with some neutral artwork, a rattan chandelier and of course, some greenery.
