Sometimes when I walk into a client’s home for the first time, I get to see the nursery design in its completed form. It’s one of the best feelings to see our work finally translated in person and being actually used! It’s rare that I walk into a nursery for the first time having never seen it before—it’s something that uniquely occurs when we have a Virtual Nursery Design that just so happens to be local.
When we take on a client for Virtual Design, the entire process is done, well, virtually. We always do a Zoom call first to chat with the client and discuss what they want for their nursery design. We send over floor plans, renderings, and all the items we suggest for the design in a clickable list. Then after edits and changes, the client takes it from there! We only get the opportunity to see the nursery in person if they happen to be local, and this one luckily was.

The nursery interior design world is a funny industry. It feels sometimes like it doesn’t exist. There aren’t many resources for expecting parents on how to design a nursery, so during our first call with a new client, we always discuss the things they want but aren’t sure how to achieve. This client let us know that they wanted a serene nursery design with whites, neutrals and blues. It’s a small space nursery, so we had to fit a lot of things in a small amount of space. That’s what the floor plan is for! We were able to fit a crib, small dresser / changing table, and glider recliner into this room. Luckily, we had some wiggle room because the windows were placed high up on the wall, giving us extra wall space.
They really wanted nursery wallpaper, but since we were dealing with a small space, we chose a very subtle wallpaper pattern. That way, they get some visual appeal and interest without overwhelming the room. We suggested a slate blue accent instead of baby blue to give the room an elevated feel with higher contrast, and then wove in various neutrals for texture and depth.
As you can see, we hung a set of 4 baby animal art prints over the crib. These are such a sweet accent! We suggested hanging them a bit higher so they aren’t reachable from the crib, and they have plexiglass instead of real glass so they are safe. We always recommend adding extra security hardware as well so there is no chance they will fall off the wall, even if they are knocked from below. The slate blue crib sheet pops against the white crib and the faux floor plant adds some color and vibrancy to the nursery.
The textured wall mirror is such a great statement piece in this neutral nursery design! Not only does it have a fun seagrass texture, but it has a touch of black and white woven in which gives it some contrast as well. It really pulls everything together. The tiered side table and the tiered rattan storage unit coordinate for balance, and the boucle storage ottoman in a warm beige adds more texture and another layer of neutral color. The ivory glider is one of our favorites because it not only glides, but reclines as well!
To tie things together, we added slate blue blackout curtains. They give the nursery design plenty of contrast, but also the light protection that every baby needs. The blackout curtains coordinate with the slate blue changing pad cover, and of course the crib sheet as well. We love how this gorgeous neutral and slate blue nursery came out!
