My favorite type of email is one that comes from a previous client, asking for help updating their nursery or child’s room. I love that I get to revisit homes, spaces and kids that I’ve worked with before, and see how they’ve grown! I’ve worked with this client since her two children were both in nurseries, and now they are pre-teens—time flies! I updated their rooms once before, and then again this past year. Since we weren’t overhauling the rooms, I was able to do all of the design work via E-Design.

This is the first of the two siblings’ rooms, for the little girl. She was ready for a more mature space and wanted to change her pink walls for blue, and get a cozy corner bed.

The main element of this girl’s room is of course that stunning silvery blue chinoiserie wallpaper. And it’s removable! In person, it has a beautiful pearlescent quality that shimmers—it’s seriously amazing. There are so many options for removable wallpaper now that didn’t exist when I updated her room the first time, probably 5 years ago.

In her old room, she had a twin bed centered on the wall. For her new room, she requested a new corner bed (both the kids did), so I worked in this modern corner bed from PBTeen. Corner beds are not easy to work with since the bed can’t be centered on the wall. By centering the artwork and using roman shades (because we couldn’t use hanging curtains), the design flowed nicely.

The modern gold chandelier was in her old room and stood the test of time, so we were able to reuse that piece. She also had a gorgeous mirrored dresser that we also kept, but it’s on the opposite wall, so not shown in the rendering. The original nursery I designed for her 10 years ago had a black glider, which we were able to reuse in her “big girl room”, but it finally got retired in this version of the design. We wanted to go softer with the colors, so we didn’t use the black accent (plus, 10 years is a pretty good run for a nursery glider!)

I absolutely love how this design turned out! The chinoiserie wallpaper makes it so dramatic, but since it’s removable, it can always come down if she wants to change it 5 years down the line again. But honestly, it’s so gorgeous that I can’t imagine she would!
