Lately, we’ve had a lot of clients asking for neutral nurseries that aren’t, well, neutral. Creams, ivories and beiges were super popular over the last few years, and we’re noticing that clients are starting to go for deeper hues as neutrals now. We’re seeing requests for sage green, soft grays, wood tones and black. This Orange County client came to us asking for a nursery with sophisticated pattern, contrast and a neutral feel without the neutrals.

Gray & Green Nursery

We absolutely love how this nursery design came out! The wallpaper is a very soft gray with a traditional geometric pattern. It sets the foundation of the room as a warm and inviting place. Then we pumped up the contrast by using mis-matched furniture and pops of black. The client fell in love with this two-tone modern crib! We paired it with a black dresser and then used black wall shelves on the opposite wall for balance.

The nursery also has some touches of gold for a little warmth. The black chandelier actually has a gold inside which is visible from underneath. The feet on the crib are also gold, and we added a round gold mirror above the dresser as well. It’s just a little, but makes a big difference.

Our favorite piece in this nursery is probably the glider! Our client wasn’t sure how she felt about green, but once we showed her the concept rendering, she loved it. The green velvet glider adds a fun pop of color, and it’s also a super comfortable chair. We added a boucle ottoman for some extra texture, and it also has storage inside!

The rug was also another great find for this nursery. It had whites, grays and blacks which helped to pull the whole design together. It’s also super cozy and will hide stains well. We also added a faux sheepskin accent rug for more coziness, which can be used for tummy time and playtime.

Sophisticated Gray & Green Nursery Design

If you’re curious about our nursery design process, we created the rendering above for the client. We did a few versions of this until we landed on the perfect details. We created a floor plan as well, and a big shopping list for all the items so everything is organized and easy to keep track of. This was a local nursery design here in Orange County, but we also do E-Designs all across the country!
