A few weeks ago, you may have seen the twins nursery I designed for a Virtual client. I had mentioned that I’d designed a few rooms for her other daughters over the years, and now it was time for her son’s big boy room! Transitioning a toddler room to a child’s room is always such a treat—there’s always so much excitement from the child as they actively watch their environment grow with them.

Car themed boy

This particular child was really into cars, like so many toddlers are! The room already had this gorgeous thatch pattern wallpaper with tones of slate blues and teals, along with the patterned curtains. We needed to fill the space with new furniture, including a big boy bed, and some elevated car themed decor so the space wouldn’t feel too juvenile.

To start off the space, we needed to choose the perfect slate blue paint color. Her wallpaper and drapery had a slight teal hint, so we chose a slate blue paint that had a touch of green in it to coordinate. Then we chose the main furniture. We started with this gorgeous dark brown upholstered bed, and used her existing gray dresser. We needed nightstands, so we got two that matched the dresser.

Then for the car decor! We found four car art prints in fun colors to go over the bed, and then paired that with another larger coordinating piece on the opposite wall. And of course, any car themed room is going to need a touch of black, so we brought that in with a fun modern black wall mirror and little black table lamps for the nightstands.
